An interview with the Sincopat remix contest winner: SNYL

His winning remix is out now on Sincopat's 'Remixed 11'

For our first interview on HdBlog, we’re very excited to have a chat with SNYL, the winner of the Sincopat remix contest powered by Hello Demo. The contest, which was launched in July, gave producers the chance to remix AFFKT’s ‘Bac’. The winner was by Hungarian artist SNYL, who’s remix will be released on Sincopat’s yearly project ‘Remixed Series’, which is out now!

Coming from a small village near Budapest, SNYL began his career as a techno producer back in 2004, when his first track was released on a hungarian CD compilation called  “The True Sound of FreeE” under the ZRG moniker.

A few years went by and his sound turned to a slower, more melodic sound. Using various stage names, most significantly Reelaux, he released 100+ original tracks and remixes on labels like Natura Viva, Nervous Records, Pacha, Perfecto and many more.

He introduced the SNYL alias at the end of 2017 with his remix for Kamilo Sanclemente and soon after that, he became part of the Artessa Music team as a producer / label manager.

Since then, he has signed tracks to labels such as Beat Boutique, Click Records and Freegrant Music.

-Congratulations on winning the Sincopat remix contest powered by Hello Demo!

Thanks a lot!

-Tell us about your winning remix of AFFKT’s Bac.

When I heard about this contest, I immediately knew I wanted to remix it. There are not many labels that I follow, but Sincopat is one of them since I really like its output, especially AFFKT’s work, so it was a no brainer. I noticed that there were just 2 weeks left until the deadline, so I did not have too much time to think of which direction I wanted to go down, but everything came so naturally. When there are elements in the original that catch my imagination, it is always a quick process. I sat down at my desk and started playing around with the stems, and within a couple of hours, most of the work was done, except for the leading pluck synth after the breakdown. I spent days experimenting with different synths and finally, I got the one that I found fitting. Actually, it is quite sick, that is what I love about it.

-Where does your love for music come from?

I don’t really know the source. For me, it is normal that music plays an important role in my life, and I find it strange that in some people’s life it does not 🙂 When I was a child, my parents listened to music a lot with me and it was not just a background noize, like in many places these days, so maybe that is where it comes from.

-What does SNYL stand for?

It does not stand for anything and it does not even mean anything. I always struggle with names, and this time it was no different. I needed to come up with something original quickly, so I wrote down random words that came to my mind and one of them was my fav animal from childhood: snail. I found it interesting, but I wanted a twist in it because for me it is important to use a name that doesn’t come up on Google. With an existing word, it is impossible, so I came up with a non-existent one.

-Who’s your biggest inspiration?

Tough question. I am inspired by great music and wonderful memories of parties mostly. I don’t have a number one producer/songwriter, there are so many out there whose work I admire a lot. It would be too long to list even a small part of that list, but I am more into music than people who make music because I don’t like to idolize anyone if you know what I mean. But if I would have to name at least one, I would mention someone, who is not just an outstanding songwriter but has an extraordinary personal story as well. Someone like Freddie Mercury.

-Can you give us a track that brings you good memories?

Sure, a track that brings me great memories is: let me share 3 of my
favourite tracks from the past, I cannot choose the best one, all of
them brings a lot of great memories, also they are all masterfully
written and produced: (in no particular order)
RMB – Spring
James Holden – Nothing (original mix)
Delerium – Silence

Thank you very much for your time and good luck with your next musical adventures!
